A 6-year-old warrior is finally going home after 200 days in the hospital
A touching story of hope surrounds 6-year-old Khu’meri Williams, who is now home after receiving a lifesaving heart transplant.
After starting kindergarten, his family noticed changes in his health. His mother, Sara Gibson, said her once energetic son began losing weight and struggling to keep food down. Doctors later discovered his heart was functioning at only a fraction of its normal capacity.
“He went from being full of energy to barely being able to keep up,” she recalled.
Khu’meri was admitted to Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta, where he spent more than 200 days in the hospital waiting for a donor. What began as an emergency turned into a long journey for the family.

“He made friends everywhere he went,” his family shared.
